ISESA Professional Accreditation
A central aspect of the mission of the ISESA is the development of accreditation pathways for Sport and Exercise Scientists in Ireland.
We are currently working to develop pathways and various forms of accreditation for those working in Exercise Science and in Sport Science and more will be shared as we progress with this work throughout 2024 and 2025.
As of January 2024, ISESA has taken over the responsibility of the Sport Ireland Institute Professional Accreditation (SIIPA) programme, which has been in place since 2006.
The ISESA is accepting applications for the ISESA Professional Accreditation programme from sport scientists. Professional Accreditation is the minimum accepted standard for individuals who wish to work with Irish high performance athletes, coaches and programmes. It is the minimum standard that is necessary for independent, autonomous practice as an applied practitioner within high performance and requires applicants to have professional knowledge to Level 9 qualification in the area of Sport Science. Professional Accreditation will be awarded to those who are considered to meet the four key elements:
Underpinning professional knowledge.
Elite sport understanding and context.
Ability to apply knowledge to make a difference.
The personal skills to bring about the required change.
Successful applicants can use the term
ISESA Professional Accreditation.
Who can apply?
This current programme of accreditation is open to sport scientists who
- have completed a Sport Science related Level 9 qualification, and
- have acquired at least 200 days (or 1,600 hours) of work experience within high performance sport.
Over the coming months the ISESA will be working on developing additional accreditation pathways and programmes for Sport and Exercise Scientists.
