A central aspect of ISESA’s mission is to develop accreditation pathways for Sport and Exercise Scientists in Ireland. Accreditation plays a vital role in enhancing professionalism and strengthening the credibility of our industry. It provides:

ISESA currently has two accreditation streams: Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist, and the Advanced Accredited Sport Scientist. ISESA is working on additional accreditation pathways in Performance Analysis and Clinical Exercise Physiology.

Types of Accreditation
Accredited Advanced Sport Scientist
Hold a minimum of a Level 9 University degree, and have undertaken significant work experience in an elite sport setting. This level of accreditation is a requirement to work with Sports Institute Ireland carded athletes.

Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist
Hold a minimum of a Level 8 University degree in the area of sport and exercise sciences, physical activity, human movement or equivalent.
Accredited Sports Performance Analyst
Hold a minimum of Level 8 University degree, can evidence training in the required Sports Performance Analysis domain knowledge and skill areas, has undertaken minimum required work experience in an applied sport setting.
Staying Accredited
Professional development in sport and exercise empowers practitioners to stay at the forefront of industry advancements, refining their skills to deliver optimal outcomes for clients and athletes. To maintain your Professional Accreditation, you are required to set two learning goals at the commencement of each calendar year, complete 25 continuing professional development (CPD) points annually, and then provide a personal reflection at the end of each calendar year on how your goals were achieved through CPD. CPD can be accumulated through a number of avenues that are highlighted in our ISESA Professional Development Guidelines.
Professional Standards and Scope of Practice
As an ISESA Accredited Professional, you are bound by ISESA’s Professional Member Code of Conduct, Professional Standards and Scope of Practice for the category in which you are accredited. ISESA Professional Standards and Scope of Practice Documents can be found below:
