Position Types for both roles: Voluntary
Non-Executive Term: Typically 3 years (renewable per constitution/governance policy)
Time Commitment for both roles:
Approx. 6–8 board meetings per year, including AGM. Additional involvement in working groups or committees will be required. Attendance at key events or stakeholder engagements.

Role Purpose:
We are recruiting for a Board Director with sport or exercise science industry experience who can provide strategic leadership on industry related applied sport or exercise science matters affecting the association, helping to grow revenue, partnerships, and brand value.
As a board member, you will ensure that all industry related initiatives align with the organisation’s mission to lead, represent, and advance the sport and exercise sciences community through advocacy, knowledge exchange, collaboration, and accreditation.
Key Responsibilities:
Board-Level Duties:
- Participate in setting the strategic direction of the Association.
- Provide oversight and governance in line with the association’s mission, policies, and legal obligations.
- Actively contribute to board meetings, subcommittees, and strategic decision-making.
- Act in the best interest of the association, maintaining integrity, confidentiality, and transparency.
Applied Industry Related Strategy and Development:
- Lead the development and implementation of applied industry related strategic initiatives
- Provide direction to ISESA to ensure that ISESA focus and direction is centred on applied work aligned to industry requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders in sport, health, academia, and the sport and exercise science industry sector.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Proven experience in applied industry related work in sport and/ or exercise sciences domains.
- Expertise and passion for sport and/or exercise sciences, health, or related fields.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into deliverable plans.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable:
- Understanding of nonprofit governance and the role of board members
- Knowledge of the Irish sport, health, or education sectors.
- Prior experience on a board or in a nonprofit setting
- Previous working experience within the Irish sporting sector, such as industry, NGB, LSP experience.
- Network of contacts within relevant public and private sport and exercise science sectors.

ISESA is seeking a Board Director with communications experience who can provide strategic leadership on the Association’s communications and engagement activities. This role will help strengthen ISESA’s connection with members, stakeholders, partners, and the wider sport and exercise science community.
As a Board Director, you will ensure that communications support ISESA’s mission to lead, represent, and advance the sport and exercise sciences community through advocacy, knowledge exchange, collaboration, and accreditation. You will help ensure that ISESA’s messaging is clear, consistent, engaging, and aligned with the Association’s strategic objectives.

- Help identify opportunities to increase the visibility and impact of ISESA within the sport and exercise sciences, health, and education sectors.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience in communications, public relations, marketing, digital communications, media, or a related field.
- Experience developing communication strategies or managing communications across multiple platforms.
- Understanding of nonprofit governance and the role of Board members.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the Irish sport, health, higher education, or exercise science sectors.
- Experience with digital communications, social media strategy, website content management, or email marketing.
- Previous Board or committee experience.
